Kolkata photographer Abhi Paul trains his lenses on four urban models

When Abhi Paul received his first Nokia camera phone in 2010 as a gift from his father, he started experimenting and clicking pictures with it. “That’s when I realized I had a knack for photography. Later my mum gave me a Sony CyberShot when I was in class 12 and it further fueled my interest and love for the photos. I first started with street and travel photography and I used to take random photos to experiment with my camera. Since then the shutter bug in me n never stopped, which eventually led me to wedding and fashion photography,” the 26-year-old photographer recalls.

The best part was, unlike many others, Abhi never faced any opposition from his family when he decided to take up photography as his full time profession. In fact, with supportive parents by his side, Abhi signed up for a professional course with famous photographer Sanat Ghosh. “But I mostly learned the nuances and the tricks by trial and error,” adds the young photographer, who currently uses a Sony Alpha7 Mark iii.

Abhi likes to showcase his creative side by focusing on lighting and exploring different camera angles. When working with models, he enjoys projecting their facial expressions and body movements.

Among the models whose photos Abhi submitted for this column, he finds Riya Ghosh very hardworking and friendly. “Dipika has a tall stature and sharp facial features and Debjani knows exactly how to pose as the stage demands. Subhamita Banerjee has long years of experience behind her and her unique facial expressions and long curly hair add to her glamor quotient. “, says Abhi. , who likes to travel solo and read storybooks without clicking pictures.
