Guillermo del Toro teases a weird ending

Director Guillermo del Toro has a new movie coming out this month, Alley of nightmares, and it looks awesome. Del Toro has long been a favorite of movie nerds, but when The shape of water won Best Picture and del Toro for Best Director, people who were not so familiar with his work began to learn more about him. Del Toro has had a few exciting projects that never really took off, but one of those projects is a film adaptation of HP Lovecraft In the mountains of madness. Del Toro first wrote the script in 2006, and the closest he’s ever been to take off was in 2010 with Tom cruise stared, James cameron set to produce, and that would be in 3D. However, the project eventually fell apart and we haven’t heard from it since. People thought that once del Toro won those Oscars, people would finally let him make the movie, but that still didn’t happen. Del Toro was recently on The Kingcast (Going through ScreenRant) and explained that he would have to rewrite his 2006 screenplay and, to this writer’s delight, use an even weirder director.

“The thing with Mountains is that the script I co-wrote fifteen years ago isn’t the script I would do now, so I have to rewrite it. Not just to shrink it in a way. or some other, but because at the time I was trying to fill the breadth of it with things that would put it through the machinery in the studio. I don’t think I need to reconcile that anymore. can go to a much more esoteric, weirder, and smaller version, you know, where I can go back to some of the scenes that were left out.

Some of the great sets I designed, for example, that I have no appetite for. Like, I’ve done this or that giant piece of decor before. I want to go in a stranger direction. I know some things will stick. I know the ending we have is one of the most intriguing, weird, and unsettling endings, for me. There are about four horror scenes that I love about the original script. So, you know, that would be my hope. I certainly get a phone call every six months from Don Murphy saying, “Are we doing this or what?” Do you do that afterwards or what? ‘ and I say ‘I have to take the time to rewrite it.’ “

So it’s interesting to hear that the person who might interfere with the making of del Toro In the mountains of madness right now could be del Toro himself. It makes sense that he wants to do a rewrite after fifteen years, we’ve all changed a lot during that time, and del Toro hasn’t had much downtime in the past two years either. we will have to see how Alley of nightmares done both commercially and critically. Maybe if he wins a second Oscar for another movie that doesn’t look like traditional Oscar bait, someone will realize that maybe he should give del Toro all the time and money. he wants to make a movie like In the mountains of madness. Alley of nightmares hits theaters on December 17th.
