Grimm named sports editor of Herald-Star/The Weirton Daily Times | News, Sports, Jobs


STEUBENVILLE — Andrew Grimm has been named sports editor of the Herald-Star and the Weirton Daily Times.

Grimm has been on the staff of newspapers for more than five years, providing sports and current affairs coverage.

A resident of Dillonvale and a longtime resident of the Ohio Valley, Grimm attended Eastern Gateway Community College.

“There’s no doubt about it – the Ohio Valley is one of the best high school athletic areas in the country. Having the opportunity to share that and tell the incredible stories of local athletes and teams is an honor and a privilege, said Grimm. “I look forward to continuing to work hard to share the stories of our local athletes in this new role for years to come. I would like to thank the many wonderful athletes, coaches and administrators who made the experience so enjoyable, and I look forward to continuing to work together.

“I also greatly appreciate my colleagues at the Herald-Star and Weirton Daily Times for their support and am grateful and honored that they have trusted me in this new role.”

During his time in the newspapers, Grimm covered a wide variety of local sporting events involving the 11 schools in the newspaper’s coverage area, including the 2017 Steubenville Big Red State Football Championship and several league championship events. the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference, as well as county and local government meetings, national campaign events and multiple local elections.

“Andrew is a perfect fit as a sportswriter. He knows the field, the teams and the coaches. said Ross Gallabrese, the newspapers’ editor.

“He has done a great job for us in all the positions we have asked him to fill. He has great ideas that will make our sports section even better in the weeks and months to come.

Prior to joining the team, Grimm worked as a correspondent for The Intelligencer, covering the Wheeling Nailers.

“Andrew’s experience made him the ideal candidate for the promotion,” said John Hale, publisher of the newspapers. “We hope he can share the stories of athletes in our region for a long time to come.

Grimm has received multiple awards from the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors and the West Virginia Press Association for his game coverage, column writing, sports photography, and local news coverage, as well as his participation in the production of several award-winning newspaper specials.
