At the end of each year, it seems like everyone wants to focus on the challenges and negativity of the past twelve months in hopes that the next year will be a lot better. With a new twist impacting Broadway again, the theater and cabaret communities could certainly indulge in the current state of affairs. But Feinstein’s 54 Below doesn’t let that happen as they kick off the year with Broadway the Calla-way! with Liz Callaway and Ann Hampton Callaway.
At the end of the show’s home presentations, Ann walked on stage to start the evening and had the house laughing as she showed what the brotherly love looks like between two exceptional and seasoned performers. Their connection as sisters, their love for each other, and the talent they both possess were evident throughout their show. Ann and Liz paid homage to their parents, their childhood in Chicago, their high school drama teachers and their entry into the professional world in New York City in the 1970s with a musical selection ranging from Broadway hits to a few acts. jazzy blues.
Liz and Ann shared an incredible night of cabaret, supported by three musicians who left the audience very happy and upbeat as we start 2022. If you want to have the same feeling they have three more nights at Feinstein’s and I suggest you strongly to check out their show.
But wait there is more. If you’re one of those people who quit the theater after the credits roll, you might want to consider sticking around at Callaway’s show a little longer. As sanitary protocols prevent performers from interacting with audiences after the show, Ann and Liz spent time answering questions from the crowd before ending the night with another duo. This opportunity to interact with them really solidified a wonderful evening hosted by two spectacular ladies. — Tom Salus
